University of Molise, Pesche (IS), Italy                                              Stakeholders' workshop "Integrated forest management: guidelines for future governance"

Francesca Ferranti represented Nature&Society in the stakeholders' workshop as actor from the scientific community, to discuss the delineation of guidelines for the integrated governance of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve instituted in the Alto Molise natural area. The area includes also several Natura 2000 sites. The workshop consisted in a backcasting exercise in which participants were asked to provide concrete forest policy and management indications for how to implement an integrated management approach for the natural area. The integrated approach potentially aimed at taking into account economic, enviornmental and social factors important for the area, such as biodiversity conservation, wood exploitation and tourism. The participation to the workshop has been supported by the drafting of a written document by Nature&Society, which described the perspective of scientific researchers on the issues at stake.
